They ALL LOVE the Langevin DVC on rec.audio.pro Check
out this thread on Google!
And they love it here too: Have
a look at this thread on SoS.
I tell you what, this DVC is awesome.
We did a shoot out with just the mic pres using a TLM-103 on acoustic guitar
(Taylor 810) and vocal using an M269. The pres tested were a Neve 1066,
API 3124, and the Langevin DVC. The Langevin easily held its own.
The other engineer (Wes Lachot who writes for Tape Op) completely agreed.
Sonically, the Langevin was somewhere between the Neve and the API. The
API was the "brightest" of the bunch, next the Langevin, then the
Neve. I do not mean to imply that this brightness was a
"hyped" sound, rather that it was very pleasant. In fact, this
caused me in our blind listening test to prefer the Langevin to the Neve!
The only problem we had was that the gain of the Langevin was a good bit less
than either the Neve or the API. I have not opened up my DVC to adjust
the trim pot, though I probably should, according to our tests. When
adjusting the tracks for volume differences, there was a tiny bit more
noise in the Langevin track, since we were having to crank it up to match the
levels of the Neve and API. Just thought I'd let y'all know.
The sound of this puppy is astounding.
This is my first "real" mic pre purchase for my personal studio, and
in hindsight, it would have been difficult to buy anything more versatile
or better-sounding than the Dual Vocal Combo. My hat goes off to you
folks. Thank you SOOOO much for making such super-high quality
gear, and making it affordable in the Langevin line for a young guy like
myself. You guys rock.
regards,
mark

Eve Anna,
A couple of months ago i began a quest to find the
perfect pre-amp for my Pro-Tools home studio. Given the amount of choices it
seemed a monumental task to say the least. I decided to purchase the 3d-mic
pre cd which would allow to me to compare many mic-pres at all price points.
There were several mic-pres i liked, but as far as i was concerned, the
combination of the electro-opt
limiter and the low/high shelving eq's made the
Langevin DVC a clear winner. I must say i'm very pleased with my choice, and
today when i received my Electronic Musician 2001 Editors choice, it brought a
big smile to my face when i saw the DVC took first prize in it's category.
Congratulations!
sincerely, john haze
Hi,
I just wanted to email and say that the Langevin Dual Vocal Combo ROCKS!!!
My vocals have obtained that "air" that I have been looking for.

Hi EveAnna:
I still have your Dual Vocal Combo demo unit, and I'm afraid that I can't
live without it. This is one of the best sounding preamps ever, and the
limiter is incredible. I guess you read the review - well, everything I said
is true, and I wasn't just trying to butter you up, either!!
Looking forward to seeing you - Myles Boisen
Dear Ms Manley,
I just received my Dual Vocal Combo from the good folks at Mercenary
Audio. What a great product! First off, I took the top off (I love the
smell of fresh solder!) and enjoyed the superb workmanship. Then I plugged a
BLUE Blueberry in (which I had previously tried through the pre's on a Mackie
and a Yamaha 01V and found a bit disappointing). Next step was to pick my jaw
up off the floor--the sound was simply beautiful even with my voice. Completely
blown away by it doesn't even begin to describe the feeling. Thanks for a
superb box at an absolutely astonishing price.

PS
Hope your wrist is recovering--I just got back from Hawaii last week and I
learned a lesson from your accident: don't go out at night without a torch!!
Hi, just wanted to drop you a line and tell you how much I love this thing.
Been having loads of fun in the studio with it: especially with a Rode K2 for
vocals (and just about anything else), or DI for instruments; but where it
really shines is live recording... it makes capturing vocals EASY, no matter how
hard they rock. I can get it dialed in about halfway through the first song and
forget about 'em. Being an old dog at repairing and designing, I had to take the
top off and look inside, and I gotta say it brought back good memories...
classic, elegant construction indeed. The only thing I don't care for is the
mirror image layout of the front panel, but I'll get over it ;)
Thanks for a great piece of gear!

Ms. EveAnna:
I wanted to express my appreciation for your service:
The new Langevin unit works great!!!! It is my first hands-on experience
with real pro-audio equipment. I was getting so frustrated with the
mediocre crap that is out there on the market. I bought the DVC to do
the tracking for our band's next album (we play traditional French Cajun
music). I brought it to a gig this past weekend to give it the
"acid test" on vox and bass. I was literally blown away.
There was a huge improvement in sound quality switching from the board inputs
to the Langevin inputs - as expected ; ).
I have been checking out your products on your website ever since Jay
mentioned your company at a mastering session a few years ago. Being a
registered professional mechanical engineer by trade, I also have a strong
acoustics and electronics background. So I have an appreciation for what
you do. I have been working on tube amps (out of necessity) ever since I
bought my first vintage ca. 1971 Marshall 50W guitar amp in college. I
fell in love with the tube sound growing up listening to those old Beatles and
Zep albums and have been in pursuit of it ever since. Your "old
school," made-in-the-USA design and manufacturing philosophy is so
refreshing. In my opinion, you have the coolest job in the world.
Thank you for the follow-up. Your service people Paul and Cindy are top
notch. They worked hard with me and Jay to get things sorted out.
I am very pleased with the Langevin unit. I was thinking about selling
it after we cut the album tracks, but now I am having second thoughts. I
am already saving up my pennies to afford some of your tube gear. If you
want to check us out, go to www.choupique.com.
The website is a little cheesy but it will give you a good flavor for what we
are about. I will get a CD to you once we get the album finished.
Regards,
-Manny Gagliano
Hello,
I´m using the DVC for years now and I´m still very lucky with that fantastic
unit - especially the limiting function is so musical.
A lot of thanxxx for this nice work.
Regards,
Kilian
