Anagram Technologies ADC Module REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE:
CAUTION!! The
Digital card is sensitive to static electricity. Make sure to handle the card
properly by grounding yourself touching the chassis of the unit or other
grounded equipment before handling any static sensitive devices.
1.
Turn off the SLAM!’s Outboard Power Supply. Leave unit to cool off for
5 minutes.
2.
Leave the power connector hooked up from the audio chassis to the PSU.
Also, leave the AC mains power cord plugged into to the wall. This will keep the
unit grounded to the wall so that static electricity will go to earth instead of
going to harm to static sensitive devices.
3.
Again, make sure power is turned OFF at the Outboard Power Supply!
4.
Remove the 2 Phillips screws securing the top grill cover. Remove the top
cover by sliding it out towards the back. Put cover and screws aside.
5.
Locate the green Digital board in the center of the SLAM! audio chassis.
The Anagram Quantum module closest to the front panel is the one you will
replace!! That is the ADC. The other one is the DAC module and it is not
affected by this software update.
6.
Remove the 4 phillips screws holding the digital card and disconnect the
two 34 ribbon cables. Make note of the solder lug under the front left mounting
screw and the ground wire attached to it. Move it aside for now.
7.
Lift up the green digital card and turn it upside down to remove the 4
nuts securing chip, as well as each nut’s plastic washer. Make sure you note
how the hardware is installed. When you install the new module, you must put the
plastic washers back in place the way they were!
8.
Pull the module out tightly with your hand. The module is mounted in a
socket and should be very easy to remove.
9.
Note that the module has a key locator to determine proper
orientation. One of the pins under the module is clipped. Make sure to place the
new module in the correct position. The module will self-destruct if you do not
orientate it in the correct position!
Refer to this
drawing for module orientation and location:

10.
Now replace the plastic washers and nuts to re-secure the new Version 3
module to the PCB as shown in the example above.
11.
Plug the 34 way ribbon cables back into their sockets and screw the green
digital card back onto the spacers, remembering to put the ground wire solder
lug under the front left mounting screw.
12.
Put the top back onto the unit by sliding it into the side rails from the
back and popping it into the front panel slot. Secure it with the two silver
Phillips #1 countersunk screws.
