Casa de las Ratas Week 76

up through November 2003

Copper gutters!

THIS is classy stuff.

One benefit of manufacturing electronics by day and working on Rat House by weekend is we all know how to solder. This skill came in handy when installing copper gutters. Here Manny solders an end cap to a length of copper gutter.

Here is a closeup of the drainspout exit point installed.

The gutter channel pieces can in a huge custom crate basically cut to size. We did not have to make any joins in the middle of any of the gutter runs. Just had to solder on the end caps and drains.

Martin installs a gutter bracket.

The boys screwed on the cast bronze brackets with stainless steel lag screws.

Here's Ricky installing the down spout.

Copper gutters are really bad-ass!

Meanwhile inside, all the window trim is done. Here's the first bedroom's windows.

And the Flamin' Hot Cheetos room has completed windows!

And the light fixtures started to arrive..

Nice warm glow of the closet lamps.

Even the laundry room has lovely lites.

I also ordered these cool torches online, from a Mica Lamp distributor.

And this sconce too.

The hall lites are especially lovely. They have 3 way switches so you can turn them off and on at every entry to the hall for convenience.

Another testament to eBay! Yes I found this huge stained glass window on eBay. It was the perfect size. Can you believe it?
