Casa de las Ratas Week 64
up to April 19, 2003
Hey yo,
We have completed all the decorative painting of the Rat House. The
color wash looks BOSS.
Here is the detail of the alcoves. Because we did not texture the alcoves
and instead sanded them smooth, Manny used a plastic grocery bag to smoosh
in the paint to simulate the texture. It blends well.
It is such a great look.
The pint of one dollar scrap paint was enough for the whole house.
(Blended with glaze.)
| Here's the dining room all color washed.
We'll do the crown moulding and baseboard in here next week.
The Flamin' Hot Cheetos room was further calmed down with two hits of
brown color wash.
Because I did not score the blue tape when I removed the
tape around the tile last week, when I pulled it off I peeled off some of
the yellow paint.
So today I re-taped the tiles for protection and applied some drywall
mud to smooth it out again. I will sand this out and touch up this section.
Also, the two boards sitting in the wall cut out are part of the
medicine cabinet I am building.
I cut the oak pieces for both bathrooms' medicine cabinets
on my table saw.
Here I am putting some blue tape on the 1/4" drill bit in order to
set a maximum depth for the shelf bracket holes as to not drill through
the 3/4" thick side pieces.
My medicine cabinets are going to have adjustable shelves.
This is the same DeWalt drill that broke my finger in September 2002. I
have great respect for this drill.
Ricky and I cut the medicine cabinet backing pieces of oak
plywood. Here is Ricky staining them.
One cabinet is about 16" x 20". The other one is 26" x
26". I'll probably do two doors for the big one in the 1st bathroom.
More later as we finish it.
Here is Paco staining some of the 1 x 4's which in conjunction with some
3/4" L moulding will become the window trim in the dining room.
We are using a Minwax combo stain/polyurethane.
Antique Walnut color.
Here again is some detail of the brown color wash in the
front entryway. You can see Manny and Martin working on the hallway crown
moulding.
DeWalt chop saw and Porter-Cable finishing nail gun are seeing some
action in this operation.
Another view with flash photography.
The stained and polyurethaned crown moulding is up in the hall.
