Casa de las Ratas Week 62
up to April 5, 2003
Hello Rat Fans. Sorry again for the long spread between updates. I have
barely been in the country for the last two months. Too much travelling.
But now I am home for awhile and back to work with my Rat Crew!
As seen previously on Casa de las Ratas, we had Ed the Tile guy doing
major tile work. He's off for awhile and the Rat Crew have been hard at
work.
All the windows have now been reinstalled in the house!
Ed's lovely tiles in the bathroom were promptly covered up so the walls
and ceilings could be painted.
Again, yay! The windows are in!
I found a nice yellow.
| Late one night before I took off for Amsterdam we
experimented with faux glaze and this nice warm yellow mixed about 4 to 1.
We started in the closet.
Using cheesecloth we smeared the paint and glaze onto the walls then
wiped and smeared and smoothed it out using our hands.
Cool effect, huh?
A small piece of stained wood moulding was put up to break
the transition from wall to arched cove ceiling.
Hmmm check out the hall!
I was waiting in line at the paint counter at Home Depot but
there were like 100 people in front of me. So I wandered over to the
"ooops" table and found.... a pint of the perfect tan! For a
whole whopping ONE DOLLAR!
This we mixed about 10 to 1 with the glaze, rolled it onto the wall
smooshing it into the crevices and nooks in the texture then wiped most of
it off using some old t-shirts.
What's really funny is the $1.00 pint will probably be enough for the
hall, dining room and living room.
Bedroom 2 got a nice treatment of blue-ish violet. Manny applied this faux
finish with his bare hands.
There are a coupla paw prints showing... but it looks great.
Bedroom 3 holds the tint of Cheetos Sabrositos currently but
it will be toned down with a darker brown glaze color wash.
That's the little closet where I perfected my tan color wash technique
before we tacked the main hallway.
All this color-washing really brings out the nifty texture on the
walls. It's cool.
The boys have been staining the wooded crown moulding and
were itching to get some of it up.
Finally the chop saw gets some action.. |
Today we got the hall and the front arches color washed with
the tan glaze. This is the antique look I was after.
We will continue this into the dining room and into the living room.
