Casa de las Ratas Week 32

up to September 7, 2002

looking good!

Sure is looking good at the Rat House!

The columns and chainlink fence are all painted. Need to paint the mailbox.

Paco is still playing with the windows. They are about done.

That paint gun sprays a nice and even coat.

The drywall is up in the second bedroom except for the cove corners.

We have the method worked out for all the curves. We score the back of the drywall about every inch and a half then it bends nicely. Here is one arch in the hallway done in this manner.

The third bedroom drywall is just about done.

The hall drywall looking towards the back and towards the front.

Manny and Toto made new wooden supports for the rounded arches for both the 1st bedroom and the kitchen (pictured here).

No plywood has been harmed in the making of this house!
Old style.

Half of the kitchen and dining room drywall is installed. Pictured here, Manny and Toto fit the piece over the dining room entry arch.

The Vanimal steps in to drive some screws with our fun toy, the screwgun.

Remember those huge two stacks from last time? We have just about gone through them. We have been a little wasteful with the drywall on purpose. Joins at the corners of doors or windows are more prone to cracking. For this reason it is best to cut out a window or door opening out of a whole piece and avoid making joints at the corners. The other thing is the ceiling height is a few inches over 8 feet so we have had to work with one horizontal 4' piece and then a cut vertical piece to make up the extra inches. We'll need some more drywall next week. Maybe only 20 or 50 pieces... We are using 5/8" thick drywall which is firecode rated, and very strong. It is also more dense providing better sound separation.

And lastly for this installment, the side stucco patching has been completed and painted.
