Casa de las Ratas Week 23

up to July 6, 2002

Danger Will Robinson

Everything is DEAD in the Rat House!

Is it Circus Vargas or Rat House?

Yes Terminix came in on Monday and tented the Rat House. It was only a three day operation. Everything is now very dead inside.

The Terminix boys were awesome. I asked if they could be very careful up on my new roof not to break any of the new clay tiles. They told me they usually break a few, but no more than ten. I told them that I would give them $50 each if they broke zero tiles.

They got their bonuses!

Since everything is now dead and the house is open, I bought 15 gallons of Jasco Termin-8 and sprayed that green shit all over anywhere the bugs came in last time. This copper napthenate will make the wood not taste so good to the bugs.

With drywood termites, they could come back tomorrow. Tenting only kills everything that is in there that day. There is no residual effect. This Termin-8 will discourage them at least.

I even crawled all under the crawlspace and nuked all the beams under the house with that stuff. I was pretty grimy by the end of the day. I never ask my boys to do anything I wouldn't do myself... this was a pretty nasty job. Yukko.

Oh yeah i forgot to show you all my new post caps on the concrete pillars!

Manny and I cemented them in place last week.

Here is Toto getting all the old paint off the closet wall. There are only two small closets that got to keep their original plaster.

Here is Manny sealing all leaks around ducting and any wiring penetrations to the attic.

We started getting seriously into Title 24 territory. (That's California's Energy Code thingy we have to comply with.)

Here is Martin beginning the insulation installation. R-19 in the 2 x 6 walls and ceiling, R-13 in the 2 x 4 walls.

On Sunday, Toto and I got the front room pretty well wrapped up.

It was a scratchy job. Lots more to do.
